Middle School Orchestra

Orchestra instruction begins in sixth grade in Broken Arrow at all five middle schools. Students have the opportunity to begin with Summer Strings Academy the summer prior to their sixth grade year if they wish, or wait till school begins in the fall. Students may choose between the violin, viola, cello or the string bass.

Seventh grade orchestra students continue to improve on the basics and move into more intermediate musical techniques.

In eighth grade students challenge themselves with more advanced techniques.

Each middle school orchestra has their own concerts and schedule, but they share a general timetable and form every year. 7th and 8th graders perform in the All-BA concert in October, then every orchestra performs in the winter concert. Early spring is recruiting season, then the push for state contest for 7th and 8th graders in March. Later in the spring, there are trips to Frontier City, and then everyone performs a spring concert.
